My Birthday Wishlist 2017

birthday wishlist 20171, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 1011

It appears that it has become somewhat of a tradition on my blog for my yearly ‘Birthday Wishlist’ post – more like my excuse to swoon over all the things I’d like but can’t afford. With my 24th birthday coming up in a few weeks, I thought I’d put together a little wishlist of all the things I would ask for if money were no object. I can instantly see a rose gold and pink theme happening and that’s got to be a good thing!

When birthdays or Christmas come around, I often ask for a few things that I’ve previously run out of and this year is no exception. My beloved Becca Champagne Pop Highlighter has finally reached the end of it’s life, it’s been a good year or so but dropping it from a height definitely didn’t help to prolong it any more. This is my absolute favourite highlighting product and I use this everyday without fail, so it certainly is one I have my fingers crossed to receive. Another makeup favourite is the Benefit Roller Lash Mascara, which I’ve gone through three sample sized versions of and I think it’s finally time I got the full-size as it’s the best!

Now onto the larger and more ‘wishful thinking, in my dreams’ type presents. First up are these two beautiful Rose Gold Pandora rings, which I’ve had my eye on for a little while now and am desperate to add to my jewellery collection. I have a thing for mixing silver and rose gold at the minute and I think these will compliment my everyday bracelets so nicely. Next is probably something I’ve had on my wishlist for a few years now but I just haven’t ever really asked for it or bought it myself, and it’s this Saint Laurent Card Holder – isn’t it a beauty! This is a totally unnecessary item and one that I definitely don’t need, but I feel like I throw so much rubbish into larger purses (like this Vivienne Westwood version that I also have my eye on) and it seems like a card holder could be just what I need. I also carry a few smaller bags and would like something that will fit in those nicely.

So there you have it, another year and another swoon-worthy Birthday Wishlist. Let me know if any of these things are on your wishlist too!

Friction Free Shaving: The Subscription Box

friction free shaving

Hair removal is one of the most unglamorous and laborious parts of any routine, and because of this, it can be one of those that gets neglected. I know personally, I’m awful at remembering to change my razor (I dread to think how long I go before swapping them sometimes), and I know that this is a case for a lot of women too!

And so when the lovely people at Friction Free Shaving* (FFS for short. Genius) got in contact with me about their monthly subscription boxes, I totally had a “Where have you been all my life?!” moment. This is a totally new introduction to the world of subscription boxes and personally I think its fab idea. There have been many a time where I’ve ventured into Boots, only to find a new razor or a pack of razor blades costing an arm and a leg. I seriously think Gilette think we’re made of money!

friction free shaving

So now onto the important bit, what actually is Friction Free Shaving and how does it work? Well, you pay a monthly free (this varies on the razor/blades you choose) and then you get four new razor blades delivered to your door every month – as well as the initial package that comes with the razor itself. And it’s pretty cheap too!

There are two different options; £5 a month and £7 a month. For £5 a month, you get the Frankie razor which comes with 4 x 3 blade razor heads. And for £7 a month (which still isn’t a lot), you’ll get the Samantha razor which comes with 4 x 5 blade razor heads. All that, every month, for a small fee!

I was sent the Samantha razor, the most expensive but still reasonably priced option on the FFS website. On initial opening, the first thing I noticed was how pretty it looked compared to my older razors – it’s gold. BLACK & GOLD. It’s a totally Instagrammable razor and that’s definitely something I never thought I’d say. It also feels super high quality and is nicely weighted making the whole shaving experience a lot easier. It also pivots making it super easy to get to all areas without any difficulty. It’s the little things, you know.

So what are the benefits of Friction Free Shaving, other than the super reasonable price? Well if you’re like me and totally rubbish at changing your razors, this little subscription box has you covered by delivering 4 new razor blades every.single.month. This is great for reducing the risk of bacteria and nasties building up, which can cause skin irritation as well as combating those awful blunt blade burns and rashes. So using a fresh blade each week will mean your legs (and other areas) will be smoother, cleaner and free from itchiness or irritation.

And if a new razor blade every week sounds a little extreme – I mean who has time for shaving that much – then you can either opt for your box o be sent out every other month, or you can choose to have something else sent to a similar value. Perfect and so convenient! Just update your preferences within your account and you’ll be sorted.

Would you try a monthly razor subscription service? You can buy a Friction Free Shaving box on their website, and be sure to check out their social channels for a few little tips!

KKW by Kylie Cosmetics Crème Liquid Lipsticks

Following my previous four purchases from Kylie Cosmetics, I promised myself I wouldn’t give into the hype of her name and brand again. Then enters the new KKW by Kylie Cosmetics collection and my previously made promise lost itself along with half of the beauty-obsessed world! There I was at almost midnight, wide-eyed, fingers poised refreshing the Kylie Cosmetics website like the madwoman I became. But I’m totally not one for the hype. Long story short, I purchased the lipsticks, paid the insane postage cost and sat there over the moon with my latest purchase, knowing full-well I may have to wait a month for them to actually arrive.

Three long weeks later, the lipsticks arrived at my proverbial doorstep, or in my case at the post office waiting for me to pay anther painfully high customs charge. Painfully high. Now the whole customs charge thing is of course a given with getting anything from the US and out of the five orders I’ve now made, I’ve only actually received a charge on two of them so it’s not bad going really.

So after my ramble-filled introduction, onto the actual products. For those who don’t know, this is the latest collaboration and probably the most exciting; between Kylie Jenner and her sister Kim Kardashian West. It’s a set of four liquid lipsticks, under the new formula of a Crème Liquid Lipstick – this is just one of the many formulas Kylie has been bringing and probably the most unique. In true KKW style, they’re all nude shades and in all honesty, are all fairly similar ones at that. The lipsticks are housed in matte frosted plastic tubes, which I actually think look extremely pretty and is preferable to her other original packaging, and these are set in a sturdy nude pink box with the signature KKW text.

So what is the new Crème formula, exactly? Although these are advertised as liquid lipsticks, it really is the ‘creme’ part that you need to pay attention to. These aren’t matte like your typical liquid lipstick, they don’t dry down and they’re not long lasting. At all. In fact, they’re less long lasting than some of my glosses and so if you’re expecting the liquid lipstick part of the name, you may be slightly disappointed. They are, however, not marketed anywhere as being long lasting so it really is the creme element they are bringing to the table this time around.

The KKW set comes with four shades, all aptly named after the lady herself:

Kimberly – a “true nude

Kim – a “peachy nude

Kiki – a “pinky nude

Kimmie – a “deep nude

And now you’re probably wondering if they all look similar, and yes, they really do. At first glance, and to someone who isn’t versed in the art of nude lipstick collecting, they all look exactly the same. However, when swatched and applied to the lips, you can definitely see the subtle differences between the shades. Subtle being the operative word, but I think that really is what KKW was going for when she made this ‘signature nude’ collection.

Now onto the application. These lipsticks are pigmented, but they definitely don’t go opaque in just one swatch, as the formula is much lighter than your average liquid lipstick. They feel almost like an airy, mousse gloss if that makes sense, and they don’t dry down at all.  I haven’t used these a lot yet, but so far I find that they work best layered over another product like a liner or a matte liquid lipstick. Used alone, they apply quite patchy and will wear off within the hour.

Another thing about this new formula is that there is no scent whatsoever. So if you’re usually put off by the sweet scent of Kylie Cosmetic products, you wont have to worry about that with these lipsticks. And I’ve found that once applied, they leave your lips looking smoother and almost blurred. No noticeable lip lines or imperfections? That’s a huge plus for me!

My final verdict? I quite like these lipsticks for a super natural looking lip, and as a nude lover, I feel like they make a great addition to my collection. However, if you’re a diehard matte lipstick fan and need your lipstick to be ultra long lasting, or if you like chowing down on a giant burger or slice of pizza regularly, then these may not be the lipsticks for you. These are perfect for those days where you want to look put together but don’t want the extra effort of applying a liner and liquid lipstick; think Sunday lips. And as these are all nudes, it’s not really a major issue if they wear off as you’re eating or drinking, because they’re so neutral that you can’t really see anyway. You can easily just reapply and your ready to go again.

I purchased these from the first launch date but since they seem to have disappeared completely from the Kylie Cosmetics website. However, on the postcard that was sent with the package, there was a note from Kim stating “I have a surprise coming soon!” – this definitely implies there might be another restock or an extension to the collection. So if these are on your must have list, keep your eyes peeled for updates on Kylie’s social channels.

Have you tried the KKW by Kylie Cosmetics Crème Liquid Lipsticks? I’d love to hear your thoughts on the new collection!

My Travel Essentials – The Journey

travel essentials

travel essentials: sunglasses, headphones, mascara, tangle teezer, portable charger, lipstick, book, hand sanitizer, bb cream, purse, passport cover, luggage tag

We all know that going on holiday can be stressful; making sure you’ve packed everything, remembering your documentation and ensuring your travel essentials are ready – especially that brand new lipstick that you need for when you arrive. Now I haven’t been abroad in a few years, but a few weeks ago we booked to go on cruise at the start of June (the excitement is very real) and as it’s getting super close, I thought I’d share with you all of the travel essentials I will be bringing with me on the coach journey down to Southampton.

As we are going on a cruise, my essentials may vary slightly from if you were going on a plane, but I think most of these things are pretty standard and should not be forgotten. Because it’s the worst feeling when you set off only to realise you’ve forgotten your silence-busting headphones or your favourite pair of sunglasses! This is hopefully the first of a series of travel posts before and after my holiday; let me know if you like reading more lifestyle content…

Passport Cover & Luggage Tag

Now these are hardly ‘essentials’, especially the passport cover, but I always like to keep my passport in a cover so that it stands out in my bag and I don’t ever have the dreaded ‘OMG where’s my passport’ feeling. The luggage tag however, I do believe is an essential and this cute Peach version from Skinny Dip is a dream. It lets me easily identify which suitcase is mine, among the hustle and bustle of other peoples baggage.  There’s nothing more awkward than picking up what you believe is your bag, only to realise it isn’t and discreetly putting it back.

For me, this is a key one. I get bored very easily and even if you are travelling with someone, there’s only so much you can say on a four hour long coach journey. So for that, my essentials are definitely a good pair of headphones (these Frends ones are perfect), a book/magazine – or both – and of course my iPhone 7 Plus, with a portable charger to ensure it doesn’t run out!

Makeup while travelling is going to be one you either do or you don’t. For me personally, I like to have at least a wash of makeup on my face most of the time, including when I’m travelling. For the journey to the cruise, I’ll only be taking a few key items though and the rest will be in my main luggage makeup bag. On holiday I don’t like to go with a full foundation base, but I do still like to cover any imperfections and for me, the Estee Lauder BB cream is perfect for that, paired with the BB concealer.

Aside from my base, I also like to apply a swipe of mascara and the Benefit Roller Lash is super natural, so perfect for travelling or on holiday, and then a very sheer or lightweight lipstick and for me that’s going to be the new KKW x Kylie Cosmetics creme lipstick – review up this week! And that’s it, three makeup products will do me just fine.

What are your travel essentials for the journey? Will you be packing any of these?

Attempting To Become A Responsible Shopper

While writing today’s post, I had no idea what to call it. Becoming a responsible shopper is something that has been playing on my mind for a while, and is something that I really wanted to write about.! Today’s post is about my attempts at becoming a responsible shopper, and curbing my spending habits by carefully choosing what I want to buy.

If you know me on a personal level, you will know straight off that I’m not a saver. I never have been and I don’t think I ever will be fully. With that being said, it was a 2017 goal of mine to become slightly better at pinching the pennies and saving just that little bit each month. Now so far, I haven’t really kept to that and I’ve saved a grand total of £50 (I did have that horrible thing called car insurance to pay for too, so that is an excuse right?), spending the rest of my money on a total of 3 hair appointments, 4 nail appointments, 5 meals (plus some), 3 cinema visits, 2 dresses, 1 skirt, 2 tops, 2 pairs of sunglasses and 3 totally necessary pairs of boots. And then a few other bits. On reflection, it looks like I really haven’t tried at all but for me, that’s pretty good going in four months!

I’ll admit it, I’m a shopaholic. I love shopping and the thrill of waiting for a new delivery is always one of the best moments. However, I am starting to realise that adult life is looming and saving is something I need to start putting more of an effort into. Even if it just means I limit myself to two clothing purchases a month – typing that actually made me quiver inside a little.

I partly blame the blogging and Instagram industry for the majority of my spending habits, as we’re faced with hauls and swishy outfit shots on a daily basis and the desire for new clothes and beauty products often becomes so great that it truly is hard to resist. I have definitely felt the pressure on a regular basis to own the latest and greatest clothes for the purpose of shooting an outfit post or a #fwis as I feel I can’t possibly write about something that a. is old and b. isn’t available to buy anymore. What is the point? Well I’ve decided to get out of this mind frame because the point is, shooting an old coat with a brand new pair of boots for example, is still relevant and is still good content.

responsible shopper trainers

So that has been my little – or rater long – ramble for today. I hope you enjoyed this different post and although I don’t expect my shopping habits to disappear completely, I am going to make a real effort to become a more responsible shopper. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this subject and also what you think of bloggers including a mix of new (and available) pieces, with those wardrobe staples from a year or two ago.
